The Race - I'm Running The Race

“The Race (I'm Running The Race)” is a southern gospel song sung by Lauren Talley, Annie McRae and Adam Crabb. It starts before the race does, with the singer reflecting that before she was born God planned creation with her in mind, formed her heart and face, and made her in his image as no mistake.

The first verse adds that God chose her family and the place of her birth, called her to kingdom work, and wrote all her days in his book. The chorus then states the commitment: she is running the race down to the last minute, mercy and grace keep her in it, there is a fire in her soul, and she is going to finish. The second verse is honest about falling down in the race of life. God came to her rescue time after time, did not count her sin, and gave her the courage to rise again. The last verse says she knows God is for her and wants her to win, and that Jesus is standing at the finish line. The harmonies and the steady, driving rhythm give the song a marching pace, which fits a graduation, a sendoff for a missionary or any service where people need courage to keep going to the end.
