Not For A Moment (After All)

Memory of a rescue opens the song. "You were reaching through the storm, walking on the water, even when I could not see," Vertical Worship sings, and the second image is of a moment when God seemed "a thousand miles away." Hindsight corrects the feeling: "not for a moment did You forsake me."

The chorus supplies reasons in the form of three attributes. "After all, You are constant, after all, You are only good, after all, You are sovereign," followed by the line turned into a promise for the future, "not for a moment will You forsake me." The second verse adds sensory details, "singing in the dark, whispering Your promise even when I could not hear," and "I was held in Your arms, carried for a thousand miles."

The bridge lists the hard places God is present: "every step, every breath," "every tear, every cry, every prayer," and "in my hurt, at my worst, when my world falls down." Matthew 14:25 pictures Jesus walking on the water in the storm, Deuteronomy 31:6 and Hebrews 13:5 promise God will never leave or forsake His people, and Zephaniah 3:17 describes Him rejoicing over them with singing.
