Strong To Save

Vertical Worship's “Strong To Save” is a song of deliverance that begins with the exodus. The first lines address the God who set his people free from captivity, whose hand is strong to save, who split the raging sea and crushed their enemies. A shout of here we go marks the move into the chorus.

The chorus declares that the Lord our God is mighty in battle, so his people are not afraid, because his hand upholds them through trials. The second verse is set in the desert place where the singers are carried by grace, and it looks ahead to the promised land where they will see his perfect plan. In both places the answer is the same: his hand is strong to save. The bridge builds a list of titles that put him over everything, above death, above life, above the battles we fight, above any other name, above the heavens and the earth and above the rulers of this world. Vertical's arrangement is driven by guitars and a big group vocal, and the upbeat feel is meant for a crowd to sing together. The song uses an old story as the frame for present troubles, so it speaks to anyone facing a battle or a long stretch in the wilderness. It suits youth gatherings and conferences, and it makes a good opener for a service on God's power.

The sea parting is Exodus 14:21-22. The mighty warrior who saves is Zephaniah 3:17, and Christ far above every ruler is Ephesians 1:21.
