Resting Place

Vineyard sets the whole song in God's own first-person voice, quoting Isaiah 66:1 almost without change: "heaven is My throne, and earth is My footstool. Where is the house you will build for Me?" The prophecy's original challenge to the idea that any physical temple could contain God gets carried directly into the song.

"Here oh Lord, have I prepared for You a home" answers that challenge with the response 1 Corinthians 3:16 makes — not a building, but a person: "you are a temple of God, and... God's Spirit lives in you." "Long have I desired for you to dwell" keeps the longing mutual rather than one-sided, God's own desire named alongside the singer's offering.
