No Longer Slaves

Zach Williams' version of “No Longer Slaves” sings of freedom from fear. The song, written by Jonathan David Helser, Melissa Helser and Brian Johnson, starts with its main statement: “I'm no longer a slave to fear, I am a child of God.” The first verse says God “unravels” the singer with a melody and surrounds him “with a song of deliverance from my enemies, 'til all my fears are gone.”

The second verse is about identity. “From my mother's womb You have chosen me, Your love has called my name, and I've been born again to Your family, Your blood flows through my veins.” The bridge is a picture of being held, “I am surrounded by the arms of the Father,” and ends with the claim, “We're the sons and the daughters, let us sing our freedom.” The last verse recalls the Exodus: “You split the sea so I could walk right through it, my fears are drowned in perfect love.”

Being a child instead of a slave is Romans 8:15, and the sea parting is Exodus 14:21. Perfect love driving out fear is 1 John 4:18.
