'tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus

Alan Jackson's rendition keeps Louisa Stead's original 1882 hymn text intact, built on a plain claim repeated rather than argued: "'tis so sweet to trust in Jesus, and to take him at his word." The verse doesn't describe an emotional high so much as a decision already made—resting on a promise rather than a feeling.

The chorus turns that decision into testimony: "how I've proved him o'er and o'er" points backward at a track record, not a one-time leap. "O for grace to trust him more" admits the trust itself is still growing rather than claiming it's already complete.

The final verse narrows the promise to presence rather than outcome: "I know that thou art with me, wilt be with me to the end"—a promise closer to Hebrews' assurance of never being forsaken than to any guarantee about what that presence will change.
