Miracle Worker

Anthony Brown sings “Miracle Worker” as a song of faith during delays. It begins with a simple wish that every day was happy and the sun always shone, then admits that clouds sometimes come without warning and catch people by surprise.

Right when life gets frustrating, he says, he remembers that God is God and the problem is not too big for him. The chorus then lists what he is doing about it: standing on God's Word, holding on to his faith and pressing toward the mark. He does not believe it is too late, because with God there is no such thing as too late, and he names him a Miracle Worker. A spoken section quotes the definition of faith as the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of what cannot be seen, and asks whose report you will believe when someone has a better report. In the last verse, the way he is acting may surprise people and his smile may not make sense, but they are only seeing how it started and should wait until the end. The song is built on a steady groove and a call and response with the choir. It encourages anyone who has been waiting for a prayer to be answered, for a healing or for a door to open, and it gives them words to say back to their circumstances.

Faith as substance is Hebrews 11:1. Pressing toward the mark is Philippians 3:14, and what is impossible with men being possible with God is Matthew 19:26.
