Good News

An angel does the talking, and the first thing said is a gentle instruction: "Close your eyes, fold your hands, for a moment let your sorrow fade." Questions follow, "Oh, why are you afraid?" and "Has this world stripped you of your faith?", before the announcement of "a time of joy, behold a baby boy." The refrain "An angel brings good news" echoes Luke 2:10-11, where the message arrives for all the people.

The second verse repeats the posture, "Bow your head, speak not a word," and asks that doubts "disappear." Then the story moves forward in time: "The child grew up to wear a cross," pledging a life "for us." Nativity and crucifixion sit in one line of thought, so the manger scene arrives carrying its purpose.

The closing section returns to Bethlehem, "wrapped in swaddling clothes," with "all our burdens washed away." Then comes an image of communion, "We break the bread" and "We pour the wine," which recalls 1 Corinthians 11:25-26. The last refrain shifts from "I meet you with good news" to "I leave you with good news," a small change that turns the song into a send-off.
