Tomorrow
Song Meaning
BeBe Winans' “Tomorrow” is an appeal to put off no longer a decision about Jesus. The song begins with the Lord speaking: “Here I stand, won't you please let me in?” and the listener answers, “I will tomorrow.” He reminds the listener that he is the one who supplies every need, and the reply is still “I know, but tomorrow.”
The verses give the excuses that people often use. They say they thought about today, “but it's so much easier to say tomorrow.” BeBe sets a plain question against that habit: “Who promised you tomorrow?” He tells the listener to choose the Lord today, “for tomorrow very well might be too late.” The second verse repeats the invitation, “Here I stand, won't you please take my hand,” and notes that people still laugh and play and keep saying tomorrow. The closing section says that tomorrow is not promised, that the moment should not slip away, and that tomorrow could begin today. The song is an invitation song, suited to the close of a service, and its message is delivered gently, as a friend would plead, with pauses that give a listener space to respond.
Christ standing at the door and knocking is Revelation 3:20. Not boasting about tomorrow is Proverbs 27:1, and now being the day of salvation is 2 Corinthians 6:2.
"Here I stand, won't you please let me in?"
And you said
"I will tomorrow"
Jesus said
"I am he who supplies all your needs"
And you said
"I know, but tomorrow, ooh, tomorrow, ill give my life
tomorrow, I thought about today, but it's so much easier to say"
Tomorrow, who promised you tomorrow,
better choose the lord today, for
tomorrow very well might be too late.
Jesus said
"Here I stand, won't you please take my hand?"
And you said
"I will tomorrow"
Jesus said
"I am he who supplies all your needs"
And you said
"I know, but tomorrow, ooh, tomorrow, ill give my life
tomorrow, I thought about today oooohh,
but it's so much easier to say"
Tomorrow, who promised you tomorrow,
better choose the lord today, for
tomorrow very well might be too late.
And who said tomorrow would ever come for you
still you laugh and play and continue on to say
"tomorrow"
forget about tomorrow won't you give
your life today oohh
please don't just turn and walk away
tomorrow, tomorrow is not promised
don't let this moment slip away
your tomorrow could very well begin today
