Temptation (Don't Let it)

Benjamin Dube pictures temptation almost like something with wings — "a bird can fly above you and can make up a nest, on you," landing lightly before it settles in and builds a home it was never invited to build. The image makes the warning concrete: don't let it rest, because resting turns into staying.

His answer isn't willpower alone — it's a name called out for rescue: "I call the Messiah to save me, oh save me... prayer will save me." Dube's bridge turns even more direct, naming the real source behind the temptation rather than the temptation itself: "don't you let the devil come in."

Paul promises in 1 Corinthians 10:13 that God won't let temptation exceed what a person can bear, and James 4:7 pairs submission to God with resisting the devil so that "he will flee from you." Dube's repeated refrain works less like a warning to himself and more like a command shouted at the bird before it lands.
