Highly Favored

Brandon Heath opens with two conditional statements that refuse an easy equation between circumstance and identity: "just because I feel the rain doesn't mean it's not from heaven, just because I feel some pain doesn't mean it's not a blessing." Neither difficulty nor comfort gets to decide who the singer actually is.

"I am who You say I am" repeats as the actual anchor, borrowed language rather than self-description. The chorus lists specific claims rather than a vague feeling of being loved: "bought and paid for by the blood... a child of the king, friend of the prince... got my name on the list."

Gabriel's greeting to Mary, calling her "highly favored," gives the title its exact source, and Paul's description of being redeemed at a price backs up the chorus's insistence on being "bought and paid for." "We are only flesh and bone, but God is gonna resurrect us" keeps the song's confidence pointed toward something beyond the present circumstances entirely, not just a better mood about the current ones.
