Rise Up (Lazarus)

Two words, "come forth," open CAIN's "Rise Up (Lazarus)" and put the listener directly inside John 11 rather than describing it from a distance — the song speaks as Jesus speaking, not about Him.

The tomb imagery gets specific rather than generic: "buried underneath the lies that you believed, safe and sound, stuck in the ground, too lost to be found" treats spiritual deadness as something comfortable enough to resist leaving, not just something painful. "Growing comfortable... too scared to move and walk out of this tomb" names the actual obstacle as fear of change, not inability to change.

The chorus pulls in a second detail from the Lazarus account most retellings skip — "the stones been rolled aside" — making the point that the hardest physical barrier was already removed before the command to rise was even given. "When He said your name, the thing that filled your veins was more than blood" collapses the biological fact of being alive into the theological claim of being resurrected, treating literal and spiritual life as the same gift arriving the same way.
