It's Finally Christmas

Casting Crowns' “It's Finally Christmas” starts with the sights and smells of the season. Lights are twinkling down the block, Daddy is hunting for the perfect tree, cookies are baking, and the family plays an old record of Nat King Cole. Grandpa falls asleep while Grandma tells stories, and relatives knock at the door.

The chorus gives the song its excitement: “We've been waiting for it all year long. We feel it in the air and we hear it in the songs.” It adds that there is “peace on earth and no place like home,” which is described as “what the world's been missing.” The second verse looks across the country, from snowflakes in Colorado to an ice rink by the mall in Georgia, and says that wherever you are, “if you've got love you've got it all.” The turn comes when Daddy breaks out the Bible and the family gathers to recall “the greatest story ever told,” how a Father sent his only Son to be our only hope. The bridge states it directly, that Jesus is the reason. The pace is upbeat, so it works well as a family singalong.

The Savior born in David's city is Luke 2:11. The Father giving his only Son is John 3:16, and the child given is Isaiah 9:6.
