Song Meaning
Casting Crowns' “Voice Of Truth” is a song about competing voices. The first verse is Peter's walk on water, told from the boat: “Oh what I would do to have the kind of faith it takes to climb out of this boat I'm in onto the crashing waves.” The waves are given a voice of their own, laughing and reminding the singer of earlier failures with “Boy, you'll never win.”
The chorus is the reply: “But the voice of truth tells me a different story,” saying “Do not be afraid” and “This is for My glory.” The second verse swaps the water for a battlefield. The singer faces a giant “with just a sling and a stone,” while a thousand warriors stand “shaking in their armor.” By the bridge, the stone “was just the right size” and “the waves they don't seem so high from on top of them looking down.” The last lines choose a side: “I will listen and believe the voice of truth.”
