Make Me A River

Morning prayer sets the pattern: "In the morning when I rise / Jesus be my eyes," asked before the day "rushes in." Casting Crowns builds the song around a single image, a believer who stops being a reservoir and becomes a channel. "Father, make me a river / Come living water / Flow through me" is the plea, and the thirst behind it is stated plainly: "You are the One that I thirst for."

The second verse moves from receiving to giving. Steps are guided, words are filled "with the same grace that You've given me," and hands are offered to "touch the world" so the lost can see who the Lord is. Nothing in the lyric asks for a bigger platform; the request is for the flow to pass through ordinary speech and ordinary hands.

Jesus uses the same picture in John 7:38, where rivers of living water flow from the heart of anyone who believes, and Psalm 42:2 supplies the thirsty soul. The closing section simply repeats "let the river flow," a surrender with no further requests attached.
