The Bridge - Your Love is The Bridge

Casting Crowns wrote “The Bridge (Your Love Is the Bridge)” from the point of view of a believer who looks at a darkening world and does not know what to pray. The opening lines are plain: “The world's getting darker by the day, I'm on my knees but don't know what to pray.” What gives the singer hope is knowing “just how far You came for me,” and the request that follows is “There's no one so far gone that You can't reach, so reach through me.”

The chorus supplies the image of the title, “Your love is the bridge You built with a cross, and Your truth is the light that searches for the lost.” The second verse observes that Jesus “never told the broken they were whole” but “spoke the truth that healed their broken souls.” From that comes a practical line, “With love we earn the right to speak Your truth. It's not just what we say, it's what we do.” The bridge closes with a canyon left by sin and a love that builds across it.

God showing his love while we were still sinners is Romans 5:8. Jesus as the only way to the Father is John 14:6, and seeking the lost is Luke 19:10.
