To Know You

Casting Crowns' “To Know You” is a list of what knowing Jesus changes, and each line starts the same way. “To know You is never worry for my life, to know You is to never give in or compromise, to know You is to want to tell the world about You, 'cause I can't live without You.” The first verse sets the personal result next to the public one, a settled mind and a desire to speak.

The second verse moves toward other people. “To know You is to hear Your voice when You are calling, to know You is to catch my brother when he is falling, to know You is to feel the pain of the brokenhearted.” The chorus puts the desire in terms of need, “more than my next breath, more than life or death,” and says, “I live my life to know You more.” In the final verse the singer wants more than the ordinary, “to look beyond the temporary,” and ends with Paul's sentiment, “I count it all as lost, compared to knowing You.”

Counting all things loss for knowing Christ is Philippians 3:8. Hearing his voice is John 10:27, and carrying one another is Galatians 6:2.
