For Love Alone

CeCe Winans begins with questions rather than answers. Do you sit by yourself and wonder what life is about, whether there is "a purpose or a plan" or only chance? A second verse notices that things "always turn out right" and that a way back appears no matter how bad it gets. From there the song settles into a conclusion: "nothing else matters" except love.

The chorus is a vow. "For love alone, I live my life," she sings, promising "to never lose sight" and to treat any doubt about why she is here as a reason to question her fears instead. Urgency enters in the third verse, where time flies, each day should be lived "like it's the last," and what you have should be cherished because "when it's gone you can't go back."

A glimpse of the end of life closes the argument: "when we are face to face, I won't be afraid." The wording is implicit and never names God outright, but the picture of meeting face to face, and of love outlasting fear, parallels Paul's description of seeing fully and his ranking of love above faith and hope.
