Giving Season

CeCe Winans' “Giving Season” is a Christmas song about generosity. It opens by saying snow may or may not fall, checks may not come with a bonus and loved ones may not call, but none of that should matter. Now is the time to give and to live.

The chorus calls it a happy season to give again and to give to friends, and says to give with cheer because the giving season is here. The second verse speaks to those whose money is low, and suggests that they think beyond dollars, encourage someone they know and give from the value they hold. It tells listeners to spread love all around, light up the whole town and give a smile to a neighbor. The bridge says that your labor matters and that giving is better than receiving, and it asks the listener to believe that if God is all you need, there is nothing the matter. Giving is compared to a seed, and nobody knows what may come of it. The final lines say that joy will come naturally and that joy is for those who are free. The song is relaxed and has a light gospel groove. Because it does not depend on money, it carries an encouraging message for people who are short of funds in December. It suits a church food drive, an offering time at a Christmas service or a charity concert.
