Hark! The Herald Angels Sing
Song Meaning
CeCe Winans keeps Charles Wesley's original verses intact through the familiar 'risen with healing in His wings' — Malachi 4:2's prophecy of the sun of righteousness rising 'with healing in its wings' — before adding her own refrain that pulls the carol's implicit claims into direct statement: 'he is the light of the world, worthy of the honor and the glory.'
That addition borrows John 8:12's 'I am the light of the world' and states it as settled fact rather than something the carol only gestures toward through its imagery of light breaking into darkness. 'He brought peace to the world' answers the carol's opening 'peace on earth, and mercy mild' with a completed-action version of the same claim — not peace being announced at a birth, but peace already delivered. The gospel-choir vamp at the end, repeating 'hark the herald angels sing, Lord' as a call-and-response, turns Wesley's fixed eighteenth-century text into something closer to a live testimony service.
Hark the herald angels sing
Glory to the new-born King
Peace on earth, and mercy mild
God and sinners reconciled
Joyful all ye nations rise
Join the triumph of the skies
With angelic host proclaim
Christ is born in Bethlehem
Hark the herald angels sing
Glory to the new-born King
Oooooooooooh
Woo!
Hail the heaven-born Prince of peace
Hail the Son of Righteousness
Light and life to all he brings
Risen with healing in his wings
Mild he lays his glory by
Born that man no more may die
Born to raise the sons of earth
Born to give them second birth
Hark the herald angels sing
Glory to the new-born King
He is the light of the world
Worthy of the honor and the glory
He is the light of the world
Worthy of the honor and the glory
He is the light of the world
Worthy of the honor and the glory
He is the light of the world
Hey! (Hark the herald angels sing, lord)
Huh! (Hark the herald angels sing, lord)
Hark the herald (Hark the herald angels sing, lord)
Yeah, yeah (Hark the herald angels sing, lord)
Hey!
He brought peace to the world (sing, lord)
He brought peace to the world (sing, lord)
Yeah, yeah, yeah, ah
He brought peace to the world (sing, lord)
Glory to
Glory to
Hark the herald angels sing
Glory to the new-born King
He is the light of the world
Worthy of the honor and the glory
Oh
