Lowly

CeCe Winans delivers a stern, affectionate sermon here: "Lay down yourself young man / Let out some air," because "God's got your blessing / But you got to come down to get it." The refrain, "The high is for the lowly," is repeated until it plays like a proverb, and later lines add "I don't care what you say" and "It's just God's way."

The second verse leans on Jesus' words about children, "Unless you come as a little child / You'll never see his face," and then puts a pointed question to "the rich man": "Is your grip too tight to go?" The follow-up, whether it is good "to gain the world / And lose his very soul," echoes Mark 8:36.

The long closing stretch drops the argument and keeps one image, "Man, what's in your hand?", answered by "Let go of it / I know you can." A final chant of "Come on lowly" turns the sermon into an invitation. Scripture echoes include Matthew 18:3 and James 4:6.
