Silent Night

CeCe Winans keeps this recording of Joseph Mohr's carol brief — well under a hundred words across its two verses, closer to a devotional moment than a full arrangement.

"Silent night, holy night, all is calm, all is bright, round yon Virgin, Mother and Child, Holy Infant so tender and mild" stays close to the familiar first verse without embellishment.

"Shepherds quake at the sight, glories stream from heaven afar, heavenly hosts sing Alleluia, Christ the Savior is born" moves through the second verse at the same unhurried pace, the shepherds' fear given equal weight with the angels' announcement rather than rushed past.

The repeated closing line, "Christ the Savior is born," echoes the angel's own announcement to the shepherds that a Savior has been born, and Winans lets that single repeated phrase carry the whole recording to its end rather than adding a verse the original carol doesn't have.
