Jesus is Risen

Church of the City's “Jesus Is Risen” is an Easter song built on a repeated phrase. Every line in the first verse finishes with the word “like,” pointing at what the cross and tomb seemed to prove. “Our King was nailed to the cross, like love could be broken. Our Savior breathed in His last, like hell had a moment.” The grave could not keep him, and the verse ends, “They covered Him up with a stone, like it could hold Him.”

The chorus states the answer plainly: “Jesus is risen, He is alive, look in the tomb, there is hope we can find. The curse has been lifted and we are forgiven.” The second verse says he “kicked down the door of death” and that “the Lion and Lamb overcame.” The bridge turns to worship, with “Crown Him, crown Him, Jesus, Lord of all, hail Him, hail Him, the High King forever.”

The empty tomb announcement is Matthew 28:6. The Lion and the Lamb are from Revelation 5:5, and the forgiven debt nailed to the cross is Colossians 2:14.
