Coming Back Again (Holy, Holy, Holy)

Prayer for perception starts the song: "Open my eyes so I can see Your Spirit moving, open my ears so I can hear Your Spirit speaking." The request resembles Psalm 119:18, and the next line turns it outward, to "sing with all creation in the song that never ends."

The song that never ends is the one from Revelation 4:8, "Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty, who was and is and is coming back again." The chorus changes only the last phrase from the scene in Revelation, "who was and is and is to come," and brings forward the hope of the Lord's return, which Acts 1:11 promises. "He's coming back again" becomes the repeated tag.

The second verse names who is being praised: "worthy is the risen One who's always moving," and "magnify the Word of Life who's always speaking." Revelation 5:12 gives the worthy refrain its source. A run of "Hallelujah" fills the last stretch, between statements of "He's coming back again," so that the song ends in celebration of the return and not on the verses' prayer.
