Song Meaning

Sanctus Real builds "Confidence" entirely out of borrowed courage, naming three Old Testament figures and asking for a piece of each: faith like Daniel facing the lions, hope like Moses in the wilderness, a heart like David. That last one is the clearest thread — David walks out to Goliath as a shepherd boy with no armor, saying he comes in the name of the Lord rather than by his own strength, and the song's bridge leans on exactly that trade: "you took a shepherd boy and made him a king." The opening admission — "I'm not a warrior, I'm too afraid to lose" — matters because it isn't resolved by the singer suddenly becoming brave; it's resolved by borrowing bravery from people whose stories already proved it works. Daniel walks out of the den unharmed because God shut the lions' mouths, not because Daniel was fearless, and the song's whole logic rests on that same substitution — confidence built on someone else's track record instead of your own nerve.
