Danny Gokey starts with the plain fact of the complaint instead of skipping to comfort — "devastated, an understatement, it's not part of the plan... you're asking why He didn't stop it if the whole world's in His hands." That question stays unanswered on purpose; the song doesn't explain suffering, it just insists there's a "breaking in the waiting" worth naming.
"Everything that you think will break you are the things that He'll use to make you" reworks Genesis 50:20's logic in Joseph's story — what was meant for harm gets repurposed rather than erased — into James 1:2-4's claim that trials produce something durable when they're allowed to finish their work.
