Stay Strong

Danny Gokey's “Stay Strong” is written from inside an unanswered prayer. The opening lines are honest about the wait: “I've been waiting for breakthrough, I've been praying for change,” and “I know You'll work it all for good but how long will it take.” He admits he is asking for healing and wants the miracle “this time,” without pretending to be calm about it.

The chorus carries the main decision. “If I never see the promise on this side of the grave, my hope might be shaken but my faith will never break.” That sentence makes faith independent of the outcome, and it points to a day when God will “right all of the wrong.” The second verse recalls being taught to trust and calls God “the author and the finisher of what you start in me,” then settles on “If I have You and nothing else I still have everything.”

The author and finisher language is from Hebrews 12:2. “Work it all for good” is Romans 8:28, and the closing line about counting it joy when tested follows James 1:2-3, where trials build endurance.
