My America (I Still Believe)

Danny Gokey sings about a country he calls "a little bruised up" and refuses to give up on. Skeptics say the nation is "far too gone" and that "our fathers got it wrong," but the speaker answers with a stand: "we can overcome, this is not the end." The chorus repeats that resolve, "I still believe in us," alongside images of Stars and Stripes, liberty, and blood poured out for freedom.

Verse two admits history is full of bravery and of faults, and it pairs forgiveness with unity: "United we stand or divided we will fall." The turn comes at the bridge, where the song quotes "America the Beautiful" and asks, "God shed His grace on thee / And crown thy good with brotherhood." A closing verse points to Lady Liberty as "a sign of hope unto the refugee."

Faith language is light, mostly that one prayer for grace, so the scripture links are about public righteousness and seeking a city's good: Proverbs 14:34 and Psalm 33:12, with Jeremiah 29:7.
