The Master's Calling

Song Meaning

Deborah Joy Winans builds this one around urgency rather than comfort — "listen while you still can hear... bow down while your knees still bend" — treating the ability to respond as something not guaranteed to last. The repeated phrase reaches for John 10:27's claim, "my sheep hear my voice... and they follow me," recognition and response named together rather than separately.

"Seek him though your eyes don't see" reaches for 2 Corinthians 5:7's description of the Christian life, "we walk by faith, not by sight," trust extended specifically where visible confirmation is absent. "I don't wanna run or walk away from Him, bind me to Your side" keeps the song's posture one of active resistance against drifting, not passive hope that distance won't happen on its own.
