Glorify Thy Name / Awesome God
Song Meaning
Don Moen pairs two of contemporary worship's oldest standards — Donna Adkins's 1976 "Glorify Thy Name" and Rich Mullins's 1988 "Awesome God" — treating both as variations on the same request. "Glorify Thy name in all the earth" echoes Jesus's own prayer in John 17:1, asking the Father to "glorify your Son, that your Son may also glorify you" — glory as something given and returned rather than claimed.
"Our God is an awesome God, He reigns from heaven above, with wisdom, power, and love" compresses Psalm 147:5's declaration that "great is our Lord, and mighty in power; his understanding is infinite" into four short lines built for repetition rather than explanation. Both halves of the medley are structurally simple by design — neither song is trying to argue a case, just repeating a claim until the repetition itself becomes the point.
[Glorify Thy Name]
Father, we love You
We worship and adore You
Glorify Thy name in all the earth
Glorify Thy name
We glorify Thy name
Glorify Thy name in all the earth
Jesus, we love You
We worship and adore You
Glorify Thy name in all the earth
We glorify Thy name
Glorify Thy name
We glorify Thy name in all the earth
We glorify
Glorify Thy name in all the earth
We glorify Thy name, Jesus
Glorify Thy name in all the earth
We glorify You, Lord
We glorify Thy name in all the earth
We lift You high, Jesus
The glory, honor to Your name alone
