My Faith Has Found A Resting Place

Don Moen sings “My Faith Has Found A Resting Place,” a hymn written by Eliza Hewitt in the nineteenth century. It opens by saying where faith rests: not in a device or creed, but in the Ever-living One, whose wounds plead for the singer.

The second verse says it is enough that Jesus saves, and that this ends fear and doubt. A sinful soul comes to him, and he will never cast it out. The next verse gives the reason: the singer needs no other argument and no other plea, because Jesus died, and he died for me. The final verse points to the Word. His heart is leaning on the written Word of God, and he finds salvation in his Savior's name and through his blood. The chorus is the best-known line, stating that on Christ the solid rock he stands, while all other ground is sinking sand. Moen's recording is steady and warm, with a worship-leader's restraint that keeps attention on the words. The hymn is a good fit for assurance of salvation, for services of communion and for times when a person is tempted to rely on performance. It teaches that nothing needs to be added to what Christ has already done.
