Season Of Hope

Don Moen's “Season Of Hope” is a Christmas song that begins with a prophecy. The prophet told us long ago that a child would come to bring hope, and a star lit up the night to show the way for wise men seeking truth. The child came as living proof, and the light of the world still shines.

The song places Christ's birth in a lowly cattle stall, where love was born to save everyone. The chorus calls it a season of hope and joy that all goes back to a baby boy, when God reached down and changed the world forever. The second verse looks behind the lights and Christmas cheer to see people who hide their fear and hungry hearts that are lost and cold. Moen's answer is that believers can be the light of Christ, bring some joy to someone's life and share the greatest story ever told. The bridge says that love can change the world and the church is his hands and feet, whether across a thousand miles or across the street. It ends by saying they have a gift and should give it away, making a difference today. It fits a service that also collects food or toys. Moen's gentle voice and the simple melody make it easy for a group or a children's choir to learn.

The sign of the virgin and child is Isaiah 7:14. The star guiding the wise men is Matthew 2:9-10, and letting your light shine is Matthew 5:16.
