When You Love

Donnie McClurkin builds this song as a group testimony rather than a solo one, handing verses to CeCe Winans, Yolanda Adams, and others, each describing what love actually does rather than what it merely says. "Be inspired," "be romantic," "be committed" — each voice adds a different, concrete shape to the same word.

The lines stay grounded in action instead of feeling alone: "write them a poem, or sing them a song," "go get a preacher... put a diamond ring on her finger," "give them flowers while they can smell them." McClurkin's summary line in the opening verse borrows straight from Scripture: "love is patient, love is kind, and love is the key to life's peace of mind."

Paul's own description of love in 1 Corinthians 13:4 — patient, kind — is quoted almost directly, giving McClurkin's list of romantic gestures a foundation older than any of them. The song never separates the everyday acts of love from the definition Scripture already gave it; it just spends five verses showing what that definition looks like lived out.
