Gungor's "A Million I's" opens with a dizzying confession — a self fractured into countless reflections staring back from a mirror, simultaneously death and life, holy ground and burning mountain. The song refuses to settle on a single identity, instead stacking paradox on paradox: an endless gaze, a cosmic flame, a distant undiscovered star, a heartbeat closer than a lover. What holds this scattering together is breath. The Hebrew word "Ruach" — spirit, wind, breath — arrives like a refrain within the refrain, and the simple chant "keep on breathing" becomes both instruction and prayer. By the bridge, the pronouns collapse entirely: "I am" is no longer the singer's possession but something that lives in God and God in it, echoing the divine name given at the burning bush. The closing lines borrow from the Tao Te Ching, placing John's prologue about the Word alongside Laozi's Tao — both pointing to a source that cannot be captured in language. The song ends not with resolution but with a kneeling, a flash, gold on the ceiling: the self dissolved into the breath that sustains it.
