Remember
Song Meaning
Gungor writes "Remember" in the voice of God speaking to a distracted person. The opening pair of lines sets the dynamic: "You lift your gaze, and I become the star / You close your eyes, and I become the dark." The repeated plea, "Remember me," is paired with places God can be found, whether under a lifted stone or when you "unlock your phone."
The center of the song borrows directly from Jesus: "I am the way, the truth. I am the life / I am the bread, the cup, the holy wine." Around that, the refrain "Here is all I am" reads as an offering, a self-giving that echoes the Lord's Supper words "do this in remembrance of me."
The ending turns the invitation back on the listener: "What if we stopped our little game for now / And just remembered what we're doing now?" The final question, "Do you remember you?", suggests that remembering God and remembering who we are belong together. John 14:6 and Luke 22:19 anchor the imagery, while Psalm 139:7 fits the idea of a presence reachable in everyday, ordinary places.
You lift your gaze, and I become the star
You close your eyes, and I become the dark
Remember me
Remember me
Lift up a stone and you will find me there
Unlock your phone and you will find me there
Remember me
Remember me
Here is all I am
Here is all I am
Oh
I am the way, the truth. I am the life
I am the bread, the cup, the holy wine
Remember me
Remember me
Oh
Here is all I am
Oh, here is all I am
I am
Here is all I am
Oh
Here is all I am
Oh
What if we stopped our little game for now
And just remembered what we're doing now?
Remember you
Remember you
Do you remember you?
