Wake Up Sleeper

Gungor's "Wake Up Sleeper" opens with a series of reversals that read like a Beatitudes rewrite: the poor, the jaded and torn, the lonely, the sick and despised, and even the cynics and freaks are told the kingdom belongs to them, and that everything will be made right. The song then turns sharply toward the religious teachers, the ones rich and worshiping their book, who use God's name to justify the souls they took, and who draw lines between "us" and "them." Rather than leaving them outside the invitation, the second verse folds them back in with the claim that heaven is found inside us all, followed by a call to turn and come alive again. The chorus repeats the urgent plea to wake up from the dead, and the closing lines shift into a prayer: awaken us, open our eyes, let your church now wake up. The whole arc moves from comfort for the overlooked to a direct challenge for the comfortable, ending not in accusation but in a plea for the church itself to stir.
