Mercy Won

Hannah Kerr's “Mercy Won” is a worship song about returning to the place where grace first found her. It opens with a request: “I want to learn Your heart. Take me into the deepest part of You, where Your compassion overcomes me, where I was made brand new.” She then asks twice to be taken to that place again.

The chorus names the place. It is where Jesus' blood was poured out, “where judgment lost and mercy won.” She says she wants to dance to the beat of his glory and sing his redemption song. The second verse explains what happens there: in his power she is unmade, and in his presence she is swept away with grace. When he speaks, he calls her spirit and reminds her that she is redeemed. The bridge acknowledges that on her darkest night and in her joy, she finds the same truth, that God is worthy. The song ends with the title line repeated, so the image of mercy winning stays with the listener. The arrangement builds gradually, with room for a congregation to join in the wonder, and the language is personal but open enough for corporate singing. It suits services that focus on the cross, communion or any moment when people need to remember that forgiveness was settled by Christ, not by their effort.
