"There is mercy that won't run dry, there is a kindness that never dies" — I Am They open "The Well" describing an attribute before ever naming its source, letting the qualities of endless mercy and undying kindness stand on their own before the song identifies where they come from. "Taste and see, oh taste and see" borrows the psalmist's own invitation to test God's goodness directly rather than take a description on faith alone.

The chorus keeps the central image consistently physical — "come drink from the well, you can come as you are... come, fill up your cup, there is more, more than enough" — treating spiritual thirst the same way actual thirst would be addressed, with a specific, located source rather than a vague comfort. "You're never too far to come" removes distance as a disqualifying factor before it's even raised as an objection.
