James Fortune builds this song entirely out of hypothetical worst cases — the kind of confessions people are usually too afraid to voice even as questions. Each "what if" names something genuinely serious, and after every one, the same three questions follow: "would He love me, would He forgive me, would He save me?"
His chorus refuses to leave those questions hanging: "I don't know everything, but this one thing I'm sure of, the blood of Jesus can make any sinner pure." Fortune doesn't rank sins by severity or offer partial forgiveness — the answer stays identical no matter how serious the hypothetical gets.
Paul writes in Romans 5:20 that "where sin abounded, grace did much more abound," refusing to let any failure outpace God's mercy, and he calls himself the foremost of sinners in 1 Timothy 1:15, evidence that grace reaches the worst-case scenario, not just the manageable ones.
