You Rescued Me

James Fortune builds the entire song around one repeated confession — 'I was lost in need of a Savior' — stated four times before the rescue itself even gets named, letting the need sit uncomfortably in place rather than rushing past it. Luke 19:10's claim that 'the Son of Man came to seek and to save that which was lost' answers that exact confession almost word for word.

'You reached way down and pulled me up' pulls on Psalm 18:16's image of being drawn 'out of many waters' from above, and the specificity of 'when everybody else gave up on me' keeps the testimony from staying generic — this isn't a rescue from abstract circumstances, it's one that happened after other, human support had already run out. The ad-libbed call-and-response throughout ('I was lost and you found me,' 'nobody else') turns a studio recording into something closer to a live testimony service, the congregation answering each line rather than only listening to it.
