Seek First

Jason Upton sets Matthew 6:33 to music as the song's repeated center — "I will seek first, Your kingdom, I will seek first, Your righteousness" — Jesus's own instruction from the Sermon on the Mount kept nearly word for word. "Everything I need, You will provide for me" carries forward the verse's second half, that these things "will be given to you as well" once the priority is settled.

"Peace that passes, my understanding" reaches for Philippians 4:7's promise of a peace that "surpasses all understanding," and the song applies the phrase to Christ's presence specifically — "in Your presence, my risen king" — rather than describing peace as a free-floating feeling. "You're all I really want, and You're all I really need" simplifies the whole song's argument down to one plain claim, repeated rather than developed further.
