Trust Once More

Jason Upton opens "Trust Once More" by cataloging need without naming a single individual — "somebody here is hurting, somebody here is broken, somebody here is waiting, somebody here is hoping" — deliberately keeping the wounded person unspecified so the song can address a room rather than a single case. "Somebody's dreams were stolen, somebody's arms are reaching, somebody needs to hold them" widens the same technique into both loss and the physical ache for comfort.

"For love to come and unlock every door takes you and me to open up once more" makes healing a shared, mutual act rather than something done to a passive recipient — both singer and listener are implicated in the reopening. "I don't know where you come from, I don't know where you're going" admits real limits to the singer's knowledge of the other person's story, which makes the next line land with more honesty: "I only know the healing starts when we stop running."

The closing image, "peace like a river, joy like a fountain," borrows familiar hymn language but pairs it with something more physical and less expected — "flying over this mountain" — turning restored trust into motion rather than only stillness.
