Legends Intro

Conversation drives this one. Jekalyn Carr sits across from an older voice who asks why her album matters, and the track works as an interview-style preface to "The Legends Chapter One." Her answer is gratitude: she wanted to "bring in legends who have impacted the world / in history making ways, in gospel," including the person she is talking to.

Her memories give the tribute weight. She recalls "singing on your showcase / when I was just literally seven years old," and being brought onto "other major platforms" after her breakout song "Greater Is Coming." Gospel's older generation, she says, helped "change the world through their music," and she describes assembling the guest list as making "a few phone calls to some people."

The exchange ends lightly. "Well Jekalyn finish making your phone calls," he says, and she answers, "Yes sir don't mind if I do." Handing faith down from one generation to the next is a recurring scripture idea, found in Psalm 145:4, which says one generation will praise God's works to another, and in 2 Timothy 2:2, where Paul tells Timothy to entrust what he has learned to faithful people who will teach others.
