Everything

Contentment during a down economy is the claim of "Everything." Jonathan McReynolds starts by admitting that thinking of God's goodness makes it "hard to sit," and he describes the way he stays steady: "my mood doesn't go up and down with the world, and my life isn't based on money or girls. Economy's down, but I'm still livin' blessed." People ask how, so he tells them the answer, which is the title.

The hook is spelled out with the syllables, "You are my ev-er-y-thing." The checklist follows in the lyric, with "You're the air that I breathe, the song that I sing, You're all that I need," and then "You're my love, my peace, my joy, everything I need." The attitude resembles Philippians 4:12 and Habakkuk 3:18, and the belief that good things come from above recalls James 1:17.

He addresses God directly, "Jesus, basically, You are my everything," and says "I couldn't make it without You, I'd be a fool to doubt You." The closing vamp repeats "don't need no one else 'cause You are my everything," in the spirit of Psalm 73:25, which asks who else is wanted in heaven besides God.
