Song Meaning
Winds shift on a hillside and heaven whispers that love is on the way. Creation holds its breath, a million angels fill the sky, and "death and darkness ran to hide." The Christmas scene is set in the first verse, then the refrain arrives with its repeated claim: "There is a new song filling up the dark."
Shepherds and kings are both invited in the second verse, gathered around "the word made flesh" with gifts to worship. Jesus is named the "long awaited King" and a savior "come to set us free," which echoes John 1:14 and the gifts of Matthew 2:11. New hope fills every heart, new joy runs through the streets, and earth and heaven sing together.
The bridge quotes Isaiah 9:6 outright, "For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given," and repeats it so the prophecy lands before the last refrains. The closing line stays on that single phrase, leaving the nativity as the reason love is here at all.

[Verse 1]
The winds have changed we're blowing on the hillside,
As heaven whispered love is on his way,
All creation held its breath in great anticipation,
As a million angels filled the sky,
As death and darkness ran to hide
[Chorus]
There is a new song filling up the dark,
There is a new hope filling every heart,
There is a new song rising over the world,
O-o-o-o-oh love is here,
There is a new joy running through the streets,
All of earth and heaven join to sing,
O-o-o-o-oh love is here
[Verse 2]
The shepherds and the Kings were all invited,
God with us has called us all to come,
Gathered round the word made flesh we bring our gifts to worship,
Jesus Christ the long awaited King,
Our savior come to set us free
[Chorus]
There is a new song filling up the dark,
There is a new hope filling every heart,
There is a new song rising over the world,
O-o-o-o-oh love is here,
There is a new joy running through the streets,
All of earth and heaven join to sing,
O-o-o-o-oh love is here
[Bridge]
For unto us a child is born,
Unto us a son is given,
Unto us a child is born unto us
For unto us a child is born,
Unto us a son is given,
Unto us a child is born unto us
[Chorus]
There is a new song filling up the dark,
There is a new hope filling every heart,
There is a new song rising over the world,
O-o-o-o-oh love is here,
There is a new joy running through the streets,
All of earth and heaven join to sing,
O-o-o-o-oh love is here
[Outro]
Unto us a child is born
Unto us a child is born
