Come Thou Fount

Love And The Outcome's "Come Thou Fount" keeps Robert Robinson's 1758 hymn text almost entirely intact, adding only a short modern bridge near the end. The opening asks for something the singer can't manufacture alone — "tune my heart to sing Thy grace" — treating worship itself as a gift rather than an effort of will.

The hymn's most famous line, "here I raise mine Ebenezer," borrows directly from 1 Samuel, where Samuel sets up a stone called Ebenezer — "thus far the Lord has helped us" — as a physical marker of God's help along the way. "Jesus sought me when a stranger, wand'ring from the fold of God" echoes Jesus' own parable of the shepherd who leaves the ninety-nine to go looking for the one that wandered off.

The added bridge, "I may wander but I'm not alone, you're with me here," doesn't try to improve on Robinson's language so much as restate its central tension in plainer words — the same prone-to-wander honesty the third verse already confesses, paired with the same confidence that being found doesn't depend on staying found on your own.
