By His Wounds

Mac Powell sets Isaiah 53:5 to music almost without changing a word: "He was pierced for our transgressions, He was crushed for our sins, the punishment that brought us peace was upon Him, and by His wounds we are healed." The prophecy, written roughly seven centuries before the crucifixion, supplies the song's entire chorus with no need for paraphrase.

"We are healed by Your sacrifice... by Your grace we are saved" reaches for 1 Peter 2:24's application of the same prophecy to the cross directly — "by his stripes you were healed." The song closes by quoting a different hymn outright, "what can wash away my sin? Nothing but the blood of Jesus," letting two separate pieces of scripture-grounded language stand side by side rather than blending them into something new.
