Love Is The Reason

Mac Powell frames "Love Is The Reason" as a series of remembered questions rather than a single argument — a child asking his mother why they bother going to church, a soldier brother asked why he bothers enlisting, and finally an imagined question put to Jesus Himself. Each answer comes back the same: love is the reason.

"My brother signed up to wear that army green... fighting the good fight and leaving home behind" borrows Paul's own military language and applies it to an actual soldier, not a metaphorical one, before the song ever gets to its explicitly religious verse. "Love is strong and love is kind, love will go the extra mile, it ain't scared to pay the price" catalogs love's qualities in increasingly costly terms, building toward the verse that follows.

"Walking up the hill that stood before Him, carrying that cross to bear our shame" applies the same repeated question — why do you bother — to the crucifixion, and answers it with Christ's own voice: "I know that I would hear my Jesus say... love is the reason that I go." The song's structure itself makes the theological point: ordinary human sacrifice and Christ's sacrifice are answered by the identical, one-word explanation.
