Sweeter As The Days Go By

Honey sets the measuring stick in this Marvin Sapp song, and God keeps exceeding it. The opening verse describes blessings "overtaking" him "over and continuously," and a later section gives the verdict: "You're so much more than honey." The refrain, "You get sweeter as the days go by," is sung as something learned over time, not announced once.

Gratitude drives the verses. Nothing he can "strive to be" could repay God, and every time he aims to please, "He opens up the heavens." Just when he thinks it is finished, another blessing is sent down. A second verse adds a search for some way to serve, which ends with the discovery that he is held by the love of being called God's own.

The closing section compares him to a sweet harvest and good candy, then turns to "Amazing grace how sweet the sound" and the day he was saved, with "somehow" the sweetness only growing after. Psalm 119:103 ("sweeter than honey to my mouth") and Psalm 34:8 ("taste and see that the Lord is good") name the same experience, and Lamentations 3:22 grounds it in mercies that are new every morning.
