Matt Maher opens "Garden" with an ordinary appointment rather than a dramatic encounter — "in the cool of the day, You come and meet me, all the blue fades away, the stars are winking" — borrowing Eden's own daily walk with God directly.

"Your love's so strong I can't recall what was this thing they called the fall?" turns a foundational doctrine into a genuine question rather than a settled fact, suggesting present love can make old wounds feel almost unreachable. The chorus states its central image simply — "and You walk with me, You never leave, You're making my heart a garden" — turning a place into a description of a person's inner life.

"Oh, why would I hide away from Your face, when the light of Your love illuminates?" answers Adam and Eve's original instinct directly, questioning the impulse to hide rather than assuming it. "All the broken are mending, the mournful rejoicing, seeing through tears of peace overflowing" pairs opposite emotional states in each line, insisting both can be true simultaneously. The closing verse changes only one word from everything before it — "You're making our world a garden" — letting the song's central image widen from one restored heart to something much larger without needing any new language to say it.
